Every year around this time in Austin, we brave the heat and get dressed up and roam the streets for Austin Fashion Week. I’ve always been an active participant, attending many shows and nursing many hangovers. This year however, real life is intruding on my fashion fantasy. I’ve been forced to be much choosier and maintain a very small schedule. That doesn’t mean I won’t see some great fashion! Here is a rundown of the four events I will be attending.
Saturday August 11 – The Fabricker Presents Des Autres by Lauren Perdue
I would be lying if I said that I’m not insanely excited about this show. Lauren is not only a friend of mine, but an insanely talented friend of mine. I wrote about her before when she participated in a show, and seriously, her talented has grown and mutated into this crazy super-talented. I am also excited to get to go The Fabricker – such a cool location. There will be drinks from Deep Eddy and sweet tunes and hot ladies and cool clothes – why would you not want to be there??
Saturday August 11 – Fifty Shades of Fashion
Okay I admit – this one is friend driven as well. Urban Betty Salon (materminded by the amazing Chelle Morrison) is hosting this event that is part red carpet, part silent auction (shout out to Lone Star Paralysis!) part trunk show and all awesome! Urban Betty will partnering with Rae Cosmetics for this awesome evening and the dress code is shades of black, white, and/or gray. It’s like 50 Shades of Gray, but more classy and less god-awful.
Wednesday August 15- Driskill Runway and Marketplace
There are five designers showing this evening, and one of them is the awesomely talented Theresa Kopecky of Tess Dress. She is a local designer and a dear friend who’s on a mission to bring some retro glamour and femininity back to women’s wardrobes. Tess Dress is about women embracing their womanhood and enjoying beautiful and classic styles in gorgeous colors and prints. I’m always amazed by the beauty of her pieces and I am really looking forward to this sneak peek of her spring/summer line for next year!
Thursday August 16 – Driskill Runway and Marketplace
For my last event, I am so excited to see my dear friend Anslee of Savannah Red present her “Native Swing” collection! As a plus-size designer, she caters to the curvier side of Austin (and we love her for it) and always keeps her designs current and fun. I look forward to another great collection from Savannah Red…… and of course picking what I’ll be ordering for next seaon!
Are you participating in Austin Fashion Week? If so, let me know when/where so we can meet up and chat. You can reach out in the comments, or on Twitter and Facebook. I look forward to seeing some great Austin fashion!
