My Favorite Makeup Products

If you follow me on Instagram, you’ll notice that there’s been a definite uptick in the amount of selfies I post, and the amount of makeup I talk about. I’m not going to lie; I am kind of obsessed with making up my face. And I don’t care who knows it!

I certainly don’t proclaim to be a makeup expert. You won’t be seeing any YouTube tutorials from me anytime soon (but maybe someday!) because I really do the same thing over and over, just with different lipstick and eyeliner. I am not any sort of makeup magician, but I do enjoy it a great deal. And when I really like something, I like to research and learn and study it. Which means I’ve managed to discern what products really work for me, and what doesn’t.

People do ask me on occasion “what are you wearing on your face/lips/cheeks, and where can I get it?” So here are a few of my favorite products living on my dressing table!

**Disclaimer: These are the products I like that work for me. I can’t promise the same results on anyone else because we are all different, but they have never done me wrong!

My favorite makeup

1. Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Drench Lip Splash Lipstick
I bought this on a whim from the Tarte site – mostly I was there to buy a cute water tumbler with a lid and a straw. As much as a I love a good liquid lip, wearing them all the time is ROUGH on your lips. I was hoping to find a nice neutral color in a creamy lipstick that I could wear on days that I don’t do a full face of makeup. The lipstick exceeding all of my expectations!! First of all, it feels AMAZING on my lips. The pigment is rich and full, and it’s not super shiny or glossy like some lipstick. I’ve found myself wearing it with a full face of makeup because the color is just that good. I’ll definitely be getting more colors in this formula.

2. Pixi by Petra Beauty Bronzer in Summertime
I’ve worn this in almost every makeup post because it is my absolute favorite bronzer, and I refuse to even branch out to try new ones. I got it as a sample in a Birchbox (or Ipsy bag) a few years back, and I bought it as soon as I ran out of the sample……and then I bought it again when I hit pan. It builds really well, so I can do a hint of bronzer, or be a total bronzy goddess. Plus, it’s affordable, and I love a good drugstore brand. I highly recommend trying it out if you are fair/medium. It might be a bit dark if you are super fair.

3. Marc Jacobs Dew Drops Coconut Gel Highlighter
This product was sent to me to test by Influenster, and at first, I was a bit confused. How the heck am I going to wear a cream highlighter? I generally put my setting powder over my foundation, and putting cream on top of powder gets WEIRD. So I generally wear powder contour/bronzer, and powder highlighter. How the heck was I going to use this creamy, liquidy highlighter? So I got creative and I mixed it into my foundation and SWEET BABY JESUS, I GLOWED!!! My skin was glowy without being shiny, and had this light-catching luminescence.

4. Maybelline Fit Me Matte + Poreless Foundation
This foundation is irreplaceable to me. I wear it almost everyday, and it is absolute perfection! I love a good matte face, but it can be tricky when you already have dry skin. Matte, pore-erasing primers and foundations can make me look flaky and scaly, but this foundation is amazing. It gives me the smooth, matte finish I want without the flakes….. even if I’ve been wearing it for 10 hours. I cannot recommend it enough!

5. Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge
I swear by the Beauty Blender, y’all. It’s a godsend for getting my matte foundation and concealer to look smooth and flawless on my dry, reptile skin. But even I cannot justify spending $20 on a sponge with a 3 month lifespan. I tried a million dupes, and this is the only one that works just like a BB! I am so happy I gave these a try because they save me a ton of money, and they really deliver when it comes to getting my face on. And at $10.99 for a two-pack, you can’t go wrong!

  • I haven’t tried any of these, but I have been curious about those beauty sponges. I have some red, splotchy areas on my face, and I wonder if I could build the coverage with one of those sponges. I don’t really follow beauty bloggers and don’t consider myself a makeup maven either. I’m much more interested in practical everyday use when it comes to my makeup. Hearing that you feel the same way piques my interest in your sponge recommendation. Thank you!
