Summer time is always a tricky time for getting dressed. On one hand, I want to look cute. On the other hand, I want to not melt from humidity-related heatstroke. So my summer outfits tend to be relatively casual and layer-free. Because layers (no matter how light) always end up equaling more heat.
I’ve noticed recently that my outfits tend to be a lot more neutral; lots of black and white and gray and black. At first I was like MUST HAVE MORE COLOR, but now I’m embracing it. Obviously, this is where my sartorial spirit is now, so I’m gonna roll with it. But that doesn’t mean I can’t get a little crazy. BEHOLD!! Pattern mixing!
Shirt – Old Navy (old) | Skirt – Old Navy (old) | Shoes – Target (sold out) | Lipstick – Rimmel (I don’t even know)| Owl necklace – Gift
At first I was like “I can’t leave the house like this. I don’t match! People will think I look crazy!” But let’s be honest; I am rarely that concerned with other people’s opinions of me and my wardrobe, and I am pretty much nuts. So it’s not like it’s false advertising or anything.
Even though I had my reservations, I ended up really digging this outfit. When I met Kasmira from What I Wore 2Day back at Texas Style Council earlier this year, I was totally inspired by her pattern-mixing ability. She puts together so many awesome looks, and it’s been in the back of my head to try it since then. I may not be daring with my color choices, but at least I can say that I wore stripes and polka dots at the same time and I ROCKED it.
Don’t bother telling me I didn’t rock it. Because I did. End of story.
