Showing Some Leg in a Mini Skirt!!

If you were to ask my mom (hi Mom!!), she would probably say that I have shown too much cleavage in the past. Whenever we had to get dressed up for something fancy (church, family event, wedding, etc) she would always remind me too keep the girls covered. It wasn’t always easy, my friends. Being a woman having BOOBS FOR DAYS, even the most innocent dress or top can end up looking scandalous. Like my girl Miley Cyrus, my boobs can’t be tamed!

But it’s been a while since I’ve been accused of wearing things that are too low cut. For the most part, my tops are pretty modest. Showing skin isn’t really my thing these days. (Note: If it is your thing, more power to you. YOU DO YOU!!) So when I was at a clothing swap recently, I kept passing up this denim mini skirt because ….. well… it was a mini skirt. That means it showed a lot of leg. And that just isn’t me.

Thanks to the encouragement of some of the rad ladies there, I finally gave it a try…… and I loved it!! Everyone said it looked awesome, I felt awesome, and so it came home with me. BUT…. it took me 3 weeks to wear it! Every time I would pull it out, I would talk myself out of it. Finally, I decided to bit the bullet and give it a try. Here’s what I came up with!

My Denim Mini Skirt Outfit

Plus size outfit_denim mini skirt

Top – Ava & Viv from Target (I have 2 more colors) | Skirt – Torrid via a clothing swap (similar) | Shoes – Target, last year (similar) | Jewelry – None, because I am lazy

Let’s be real; this skirt is FAR from mini. But for me, it’s a big difference. I rarely wear anything above my knee, unless it’s workout shorts…… and even those are mostly knee length! So to wear something that is at least 3″ above my knee feels so scandalous, but I love it! The skirt fits really well, and it’s super cute with a simple tee and some cute sneakers. I will definitely be keeping this in the rotation from now on.

**A quick note on the top. I love my tees from Ava & Viv, but they are VERY thin. A friend mentioned on Instagram that she had one that disintegrated after only a couple of washes. So purchase at your own risk.

For those who are also into the makeup portion of my look…..

Denim mini skirt outfit makeup

Foundation – Mineralize Moisture in NW18 from MAC | Powder – Mineralize Skinfinish in Medium Plus from MAC | Highlight and Contour – Wonder Stick in Light/Medium from NYX Cosmetics | Eyeliner – Creme Gel Liner in Swerve from ColourPop | Blush – Shadow Blush in  Frat Boy from The Balm | Lip color – More Better Ultra Matte Lip with 3-Way Ultra Metallic Lip (currently out of stock), both from ColourPop | Hair – super flat from my crappy styling and refusal to blow dry in this crazy Texas heat!

Sorry for the awful lighting. I was too lazy to go downstairs and outside for a picture. Also, I’ve been using the MAC face stuff for a while, and I’m not sure I’m really into it anymore. So I’ll soon be starting the long, exciting journey of finding new foundation and powder. Pray for me, y’all.

I also just got another new pair of sneakers from Target, and I am IN LOVE. I can’t wait to share them with y’all, and style them with some fun outfits! But I have to show them to my grandma first. She says she’s always the last to know about my new fashion and style stuff, especially new clothes and new hair. So I am going to send her a pic in the morning so she has the jump on all of y’all.

How do you feel about showing some skin? And would you consider my skirt “mini?” Share your thoughts in the comments…. or on social media. You know I’m always there!

  • I’m right there with you on the short skirts. Each summer, I go shorter and shorter. I’m think I’m up to three inches above the knee now, and I’m not sure I can go any higher. lol So I understand the struggle to overcome your style barriers while still feeling confident doing so. I think it’s a super cute skirt with plenty of versatility. And the quirky striped tee and dotted sneakers make it totally you.

I’ll keep you in my thoughts on your search for new foundation. What a nightmare. I will say I’ve been using Bare Minerals Foundation (the powder) for going on 10 years now. I’ve tried to branch out a few times, but I always come back. I’m complimented on my skin on the daily (I kid you not), and I swear it’s the Bare Minerals working its magic. It’s an option to keep in mind anyways!
